Birds of Paradise was established to employ, train, and nurture a range of support staff to assist with non-clinic aspects of operating a health business.

In our fully furnished rooms, our goal is to ease the administrative burden for doctors, freeing their time to be better spent seeing and treating you.

We currently provide services to a collaboration of gynaecologists, obstetricians, and fertility experts, providing specialised care to women in Far North Queensland.

At present, the local team of obstetrician-gynaecologists is Dr Elizabeth Jackson, Dr Anusha Lazzari, and Dr Shian Miller, with a fly-in-fly-out gynaecology sub-specialist Dr Helen Green.

Appointments are available at either of our Cairns Nests or in one of the outreach clinics.

Telehealth appointments are available on request on a case-by-case basis for patients living outside of Cairns or Outreach Clinic locations.

We look forward to welcoming you.

SPECIALISTS: Dr Jackson, Dr LAzzari, Dr Miller & Dr H Green

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT

When would you need to see a specialist gynaecologist or obstetrician?

It could be that you are pregnant (OBY), you need help with a gynaecological condition (GYN), or for your fertility health (IVF), we are here for you...

Here is our five-step guide to booking your first (or follow-up) visit:

  1. While a referral from your GP is preferred, you do not need a referral to make an appointment. Should you wish to claim Medicare rebates, a valid referral will need to be received prior to your appointment.

  2. You can call to make an appointment, and we are available Monday to Friday between 9 am and 4 pm, closed on weekends, and all Public Holidays. Alternatively, referrals are reviewed on a daily basis, and once reviewed you will receive a text message or phone call asking you to confirm availability for an appointment.

  3. Visit our Forms page ahead of your visit, to download and complete relevant forms and diaries, to save yourself time at the clinic and get the most out of your visit.

  4. When making your appointment, please let us know where you had blood tests, ultrasounds, or other scans performed - this will allow us time to get these for your doctor to review with you during your appointment.

  5. Visit our Contact Us page for directions and our address.

PAYMENT OF FEES

You will receive an itemised invoice outlining the services provided to you, with payment required at the end of your appointment.

This invoice will be issued to you under your doctors name and ABN.

Medicare rebates, when applicable, can be processed online for you once your account has been settled. Please allow up to forty-eight (48) hours for Medicare to process this.

In the event of you requiring surgery, you will be provided with an estimate for the surgical treatment discussed with your doctor.

All surgeries and procedures are charged in line with the Australian Medical Association recommended fee schedule. This means that in most instances there will be a ‘gap’ between the surgical fee and what is covered by Medicare and your health insurance fund.

This may not be the only fee associated with your surgery, which can also require payment for:

  • Hospital Fees,

  • Surgical Assistant Fees,

  • Implants or Prosthesis Costs,

  • Anaesthetists Fees,

  • Diagnostic Tests (Radiology, Pathology), and

  • Post-Operative Care.

The pre-treatment fee estimate includes the specific item numbers to be used and enables you to discuss with your health insurance company what you are covered for and if benefits are applicable.

If there is any problem with either the fee estimate or any other billing issue, it is important that you ask our staff. They can help you navigate what can be a complex process by either advising and helping explain the charges and rebate structure.
